This is a two-day Parisisal Straw Blocking Workshop, where you will make your own straw hat from start to finish using parisisal straw! Students will learn the technique of hat blocking including: manipulating the straw on wooden hat forms, wiring the brim, finishing hats to the appropriate size, and basic trimming techniques.
In the workshop, students will block and finish one parisisal straw hat. Jill will walk you through the process from start to finish, and a variety of trimming techniques will be demonstrated. All materials to block and finish your hat with a basic trim are included in the price of the class. Silk flowers, feathers and any additional trimmings can be purchased "a la carte" during the class.
In our best attempt to accommodate all students' stylistic preferences, we will email you about your wishes for straw and trim colors before the class. Class dates and times are:
Thursday, June 20th, 10:15am - 1:00pm & Friday, June 21st, 10:15am - 4:00pm (lunch will be served on June 21st) - *Please note that this class is held in our LA Studio which is located in Studio City
Cost of the workshop: $395.00
Students are welcomed and encouraged to bring their personal sewing machines so as to learn the process of hat finishing on a machine they are familiar and comfortable working on (so you can continue on your hat-making journey from home). This class is designed for more advanced sewers, and students who have taken our intro class.
